Mallorca boasts a privileged climate and geography in which to enjoy cycling. The Vuelta a Mallorca Challenge is one of the first races of the season, and many professional and non-pro cyclists come to our island at the end of the winter to cycle on our roads. The Mallorca 312 race is a challenge for non-pro cyclists and a great performance trial for professionals. At RentMarch, our bicycle rental shop in the Port of Pollensa we encourage you to take note of this race's routes, as they are possibly the most beautiful routes available on our island.

A survival test

Mallorca 312 is much more than a race, it is a challenge for athletes to exceed themselves, where what matters isn't what place they come in at, but the experience and ability to reach the goals they have set themselves. Teams, registered athletes and even non-pros from all over the world take part in this challenge. In 2018 the event will take place on the 28th of April and registration has been sold out for months, although athletes can sign up on the waiting list. This is an extremely popular race which offers three different trials. These are Mallorca 312, Mallorca 225 and Mallorca 167. The names indicate the number of kilometres involved in each and the three trials feature a route along the Sierra de Tramuntana.

Mallorca 312 is the master trial, and as such, the most challenging of the three. Its route begins at Alcudia Port, in the north of the island and follows Pollensa bay up until the village of Pollensa, where it enters the Tramuntana mountain range. On this extremely challenging route, cyclists are treated to the stunning scenery offered by the Mallorcan mountain range, crossing forests, cycling alongside view points, with the sea on their right, passing through villages like Deià, Banyalbufar or Estellencs, until they arrive in Andratx, the town located on the island's most western point. It is here that they begin their return route, cycling along the mountains in the other direction along the paths and villages of the Es Raiguer area, with some interaction with the villages on the southern side of the Tramuntana. Once it has reached Sa Pobla, the route takes a detour towards the south-east, crossing Mallorcan countryside and small villages such as Santa Margalida, Petra or Ariany. Finally, the route comes to Artá, where it turns back to cross the entire bay of Alcudia and finish back where it started. The route covers 5,050 metres on an incline.

Two very simple routes

The Mallorca 225 route is the race's intermediate option. Its route takes cyclists along the whole of the Sierra de Tramuntana, but once it reaches Sa Pobla, the road continues directly on to Alcudia Port to finish. The accumulated incline in this case is of 3,973 metres. The same detour from Sa Pobla to Alcudia taken by the master race is also taken by the Mallorca 167, the most accessible of the three trials. This route does not include the entire Sierra de Tramuntana as once they have arrived in Valldemossa the participants take the road towards Esporles, where they commence their return route. Thanks to this, the accumulated incline for this trial is approximately half that of the master race: 2.475 metres.
